Help System Search
Search will return help pages with one or more of the search terms. Search ignores the following words: "a", "an", "the", "with", "of", "for", "to", and "and".
Time Series Query - Select Locations
The RISE Time Series Query page allows you to view and download time series data published in RISE. The Select Locations step allows you to find and select locations of data to include in your query. The Select Locations step includes a search bar, a variety of filters, and a list of results (locations). When you first arrive at the Select Locations step, you will see all the locations in the catalog that contain time series data in the search results. As you apply filters and enter search terms, the list of results will decrease. The page also provides options for ordering search results.
Which fields are searched?
Search will return results that contain search terms in the catalog record title, description, tags, or generation effort, the item title or description, or the location name, description or tags.
Search Terms
Searches can be performed for one or more search terms. Spaces delimit terms, both inside and outside of quotation marks, and commas and other non-operator characters are treated as spaces.
Search Operators
The following search operators are available:
- NOT: Typing the “NOT” operator (all caps) with a space before a search will require that the search term not appear in each search result (e.g., NOT lake).
- OR: Typing the “OR” operator (all caps) between search terms will rank results higher that include either or both terms (e.g., lake OR dam). Note, this is also the default functionality for any terms unaffected by operators.
- AND: Typing the “AND” operator (all caps) between search terms will require both terms appear in one of more of the search results searched fields (e.g., lake AND dam).
- Plus Operator (+): Typing the “+” operator before a search term will require that the search term appear in one of more of the search results searched fields (e.g., +denver). The “+” operator may also be used with a space before the term (e.g., lake + dam), in which case it will function the same as the “AND” operator, requiring both the left and the right terms.
- Minus Operator (-): Typing the “-” operator before a search term will require that the search term not appear in each search result (e.g., -lake). This is equivalent to the “NOT” operator, and will function the same with a space before the term (e.g., - lake).
- Quotation Marks (“”): Putting quotation marks around a search phrase will rank results higher that include that exact phrase (e.g., “de los”). Quotation marks may be combined with other operators to require inclusion (e.g., +“de los”) or exclusion (e.g., -“de los”) of the term phrase.
Search operator details:
- Operators are parsed with terms from left to right.
- With the exception of quotation marks, only one operator will affect a term.
- A term affected by an operator from the left will ignore the effects of following operators (e.g., in a search for -denver AND water, the “AND” operator would not affect “denver” and “denver” matches would be excluded from results).
- If multiple operators exist before a term, the left-most is used and the rest discarded (e.g., denver AND -water; the “-“ operator would be ignored).
- Operator characters are treated as spaces within quotation marks.
Search Result Ordering
Available search result ordering options include:
- Relevance: Orders locations by most to least relevant. Relevance considers the number of times each search term (and each part of a multi-word search term) is found across the searched fields.
- Last Location Update (Newest): Orders locations by the date the location was last updated, with more recently updated locations appearing higher in the search results. Location update dates consider only updates to the location metadata; update dates for catalog record or item metadata or underlying datasets are not considered.
- Last Location Update (Oldest): Orders locations by the date the location was last updated, with less recently updated locations appearing higher in the search results. Location update dates consider only updates to the location metadata; update dates for catalog record and item metadata or underlying datasets are not considered.
- Alphabetical by Location Name: Orders locations by the location name in ascending order (A to Z).
By default, search results are ordered by relevance. Use the dropdown to select a different ordering option.
Seeing More Information About a Location
Each search result shows the name of the location. Use the expansion arrow next to a location, then click on the Location Details button to go to the Location details page for the location. The Location details page includes metadata about the location, a map of the location, and a list of the datasets associated with the location.
Seeing What Data is Available for a Location
Use the expansion arrow next to a location to see the titles of the records and items associated with the location.
Click a Record Details button to view the Catalog Record details page about that record, which includes metadata about the record and links to datasets (catalog items).
Click an Item Details button to view the Catalog Item details page for the item, which includes metadata about the item and a link to access the dataset.
The Record Details and Item Details buttons will open in a new tab/window to preserve your place in the time series query process.
Adding a Location to Your Query
Add a location to your query by clicking the Add button (+) next to the location name. The location will be added to the Selected Locations list at the top of the screen.
To remove a location from your query, click the Remove (x) button next to a location name in the Selected Locations list.
A maximum of 100 locations may be selected.
