Report from S&T Project 20059: Life-Cycle Costs of PCCP Maintenance
The periodic costs associated with the condition assessment and maintenance of PCCP assets represent an ever-increasing proportion of Reclamation’s and/or a managing Water District’s operation and maintenance budget. There is an outstanding question on the economics of an approach where periodic inspections and repairs are conducted versus a no-action, reactive approach where emergency repairs are conducted after eventual failure. Using a least cost analysis, the goal of this research was to investigate the economics of each approach. An analysis of three asset management scenarios was conducted and it was concluded that proactive maintenance and monitoring is indicated to be more cost effective than a reactionary management approach.
