Data and Report from S&T Project 20200: Gate Design Optimization and Composite Gate Lab Scale Testing
Finite element analysis and advanced software design suites allow for optimization of structures that reduce weight and costs while increasing safety for personnel. Correlation between lab testing, FEA results, and hand calculations will allow for design advancements that can be utilized across Reclamation facilities and result in updated design standards for future use. Scale bulkhead gates, steel and composite, were fabricated and tested with the results being compared to FEA and hand calculation results. FEA simulations were modified to replicate testing data.
